The Misadventures of Hobart Hucklebuck
Things are not as they should be in Pennywhistle. Enchanted toasters are not toasting, enchanted sprinklers are not sprinkling and Hobart Hucklebuck’s origami messenger birds are suddenly attacking him. Someone seems to be draining the power from all of the enchanted items in the village. But who could it be and why have they implicated Hobart’s grandfather? The Misadventures of Hobart Hucklebuck: Magic & Mayhem follows Hobart and his friends, Specks Spacklethack and Rosie Rumpleskirt, as they try to solve this mystery and free Hobart’s grandfather from the Tower of Tribulation on Mumblemonk Mountain. The trio’s investigation into the mysterious happenings on Druid Lane gets them into hot water more than once and ultimately brings them dangerously close to disaster not only for themselves, but the entire village of Pennywhistle.

My Review:

The Misadventures of Hobart Hucklebuck was such a fun read. It’s very entertaining and grabs your attention from the very beginning when in first chapter a slice of bread refuses to go into the toaster. The bread is only the first of the disobedient enchanted objects and you’ll find yourself curious to learn what is causing the items to not work. I think the mystery is set up really well and will keep you guessing all the way till the end.

The book introduces us to a whole range of different characters. Each character has a fun name like Mortimer Moosefeather, Wicksford Waxenbee, and Pickwick Pratfall and most of them own an interesting magical shop. Besides being full of fun names the book is also full of fun phrases as well. I highly recommend reading The Misadventures of Hobart Hucklebuck. The fun and magical story will keep you entertained and excited to read more. While the book is recommended for ages 8-12 I think it is a fun read for anyone age 8 and up.

Connor Says:

“I really like it and the names are funny.”
Connor enjoyed the book from the beginning and laughed throughout the entire first chapter when the bread wouldn’t behave. He enjoyed hearing all of the names and was excited to continue reading to find out what would happen next.
