The Dilly Dally Bedtime Routine is part of the Gerbs in the House children’s books by Lydia Lukidis. The book combines both illustrations and photos of real gerbils in mini sets. The illustrations are by Heather Cook and the photos are by Bailey J Thompson.

About The Book:

Mocha says it’s bedtime, but Petri wants nothing to do with it! Reading books, singing lullabies and juggling plates are only a few of the things Mocha does in an attempt to tire his son out. Although Petri is entertained, he still refuses to sleep. He just wants to dilly dally! Worn out by his son’s shenanigans and silly antics, will Mocha ever get Petri to bed before losing his marbles?

My Review:

We loved this book. It was entertaining, adorable, and funny. This book was a rhyming book and if you’ve read any of my other picture book reviews you might know that I love reading rhyming books. They are so much fun. We really enjoyed looking at the pictures in this book. The boys thought the gerbils (and the sets) were really cute. Connor kept pointing out all the mini things they had like a mini TV, a mini Cat in the Hat hat, and a mini skateboard. They also loved the mini furniture.

Besides the pictures, I also loved the storyline and it’s a really familiar one. Mocha is Petri’s dad and he is trying to get him to go to bed. He reads him a bedtime story but Petri needs more. I think many parents will be able to relate to this story; I know I can. Even though the boys have a snack before bedtime Connor sometimes wants another one… after he’s brushed his teeth. Then JT usually wants water and a stuffed animal and then one more stuffed animal. Sometimes Connor will want a stuffed animal too because he wants to have the same thing as his brother. However, after reading The Dilly Dally Bedtime Routine the boys were ready to go to sleep. They both said the book made them want to go to sleep. First I did have to show them a video of Michael Jackson doing the moonwalk though because Petri did the moonwalk in the book and they didn’t know what that was. After that though they fell asleep right away. The boys and I really enjoyed The Dilly Dally Bedtime Routineand I recommend checking it out. I think everyone will have fun reading this book.

Connor Says:

I liked the book. I thought it was funny. The funniest part was when Petri was doing the moonwalk in the silly blue dress. I really like the pictures. I thought the gerbils were cute.

JT Says:

The gerbils were cute. The blue dress was funny when Petri was wearing it and moonwalking. The picture where Mocha was wearing a clown hat was really cute.
