Visiting The World of Chocolate

JT is a big fan of chocolate. He loves it. So, when we were in Orlando in May I made plans to visit The World of Chocolate Museum & Cafe. We arrived just in time because there was a tour starting in less than 5 minutes. We received our golden tickets and had just enough time to take a picture before the tour began.

The tour started off in the cool looking rainforest room (that I did not get a picture of). Our tour guide started us off with a video and then came back in to tell us more about the history of chocolate. She also passed out samples of a spicy chocolate drink that they created as their version of how chocolate was originally drunk.

After that we moved on and learned about the role of Monks and European royalty in the history of chocolate.

From there we moved on to the chocolate sculptures. The sculptures are from different landmarks around the world. The boys picked their favorites to take a picture with. I also took pictures of some that I really liked. I think my 2 favorites are the castle and the windmill.

Next there were some chocolate sculptures that were like paintings as well as chocolate busts.

The next area was the area before the chocolate tasting. Here we got to see some chocolate machinery.

Finally it was time for chocolate tasting. This room was set up with tables along the wall. Each table had a few different chocolates and they went from darkest to sweetest. You don’t have to try all the chocolates but, just like wine tasting, you can’t backtrack from a sweeter chocolate to a darker chocolate. We also had to learn how to taste the chocolate before we could start.

After the chocolate tasting there was one more room before the tour was over. This room had molded chocolates as well as a chocolate wrapper collection. We also received a sample of hot chocolate.

Once we were done with the tour we decided to buy some chocolates from the cafe. There are so many pretty ones and they all taste good too. Here’s what we bought:

We really had a lot of fun on this tour and learned a lot about the history of chocolate. If you have a chocolate lover in your family this is a great place to go. It’s located on International Drive very close to Sea World, which is pretty much right in between Universal and Disney World, so it’s a great place to visit if you’re taking a day break from going to any of the parks.
