**My Review**

I very much enjoyed Initiation: Sky Raiders Academy Book One. The book starts out when Tommy and his move in with his uncle following his father’s death. After a rough two days at his new school, Tommy is met by Mr. Bellarium. Mr. Bellarium promises Tommy adventure at a new school, Sky Raiders Academy, where students learn to manage the weather. Tommy happily agrees to join the school and starts off on his adventure to become a sky raider. From the beginning the reader is drawn in to Tommy’s story but the story becomes even more exciting in chapter 2 when Tommy is visited by Mr. Bellarium. The book is creative, fun, and keeps the reader engrossed throughout. Connor, my 10 year old, wanted to keep reading and even JT (7), who normally doesn’t stay focused on longer chapter books, was happy to listen to this book. The boys also enjoyed the llamas used a breaks throughout the book. This enchanting book is great for anyone who enjoys a magical-filled fantasy and I highly recommend checking it out.

About the Book

Title: The Adventures of Lovable Lobo – Selfies in the Wild

Written and illustrated by C.L. Murphy

Published by Peanut Butter Prose

Date published: August 1, 2016

Recommended ages: 3 to 7

Number of pages: 28

Summary: Lobo and his sidekick raven find a trail camera in their neck of the woods, and it attracts the attention of forest friends. Images captured have never been sillier or more candid. Just as their wild dispositions are exposed, the photo shoot comes to an unexpected end and they’re all left wondering why. The reason may be obvious.

**My Review**

I enjoyed reading C.L. Murphy’s newest book, Selfies in the Wild. This book shows what happens when Lovable Lobo and his friends find a camera in the woods. As soon as I started reading the book I was thinking that it reminded me of the fun pictures I’ve seen from wildlife photographers. At the end of the book C.L. Murphy explains that she was inspired by some animals captured on her own trail camera that seemed to be posing for the camera. It’s so much fun to imagine what these animals are thinking and that’s exactly what C.L. Murphy gives us with this book. Selfies in the Wild is cute and fun to read and kids will enjoy the silly selfies taken by Lovable Lobo and friends.

**JT Says**

“I liked it. The animals are silly.”

Dragons Are Real- Blog Tour, Review, and Giveaway

Welcome to our stop on the Dragons are Real blog tour!

The blog tour is coordinated by BeachBoundBooks. Dragons are Real is a charming children’s book written by Valarie Budayr and illustrated by Michael Welply. The tour will run from May 9 – May 30, 2016.

Title: Dragons are RealAuthor: Valarie Budayr
Illustrator: Michael Welply | Publisher: Audrey Press
Publication Date: May 5, 2016 | Genre: Children’s Picture Book
Number of Pages: 32

Book Description:

What if I told you that all of the fairy tales, myths and legends that have been told about dragons over the years are WRONG? What if I told you that Dragons are indeed REAL and that they are different than you’ve ever imagined? Did you know that Dragons are the master of disguises? Did you know that they love sugar and sweets (at unacceptable levels) and will do anything for treats? Award winning author Valarie Budayr brings us this fairly true story based on her childhood friendship with a REAL live Dragon.

**My Review**

Dragons are Real is a delightful and whimsical children’s picture book. Both the author and illustrator did a wonderful job bringing the book to life. The dragons in the book are colorful and fun and the boys enjoyed looking through the pictures. They had fun looking through each picture to find a small orange dragon.
The story is fun to read and I really enjoyed reading about how real dragons act. I also loved the font. I think the fonts made the story even more fun. I would recommend this book for any child; especially those that love dragons. Dragons are Real is the perfect book to read with their dragon friend.

**Connor Says**

“I like that there is a little dragon on almost every page. My favorite part is when all the dragons are camouflaged everywhere because they turned into other things and you get to find all the dragons.”

**JT Says**

“The baby dragon is cute. I like the page where everything is a dragon, like the chair and the lamppost and the tree.”

About the Author: Lisa Marie Schinski

author

I was born and raised in Quakertown, Pennsylvania. I currently reside in King of Prussia. I wrote the story about the Sore Prickly Bear when I was 8 years old. My teacher, Mrs. Ulrich encouraged me to write and also gave me the young author’s award. I found this book after my mom passed away last year. I had a great childhood but when I wrote this book, my parents got divorced, we moved and I changed schools. A lot of changes for an 8 year old. So I guess I felt like Fuzzy.

Around October 2015, I took the book into work to show my friends because this past year and a half has been very hard for me and my family. I knew when I showed my friends, they would laugh and cry because my life was again Fuzzy’s. My friends, Denice, Dee, Candace, Rick, Gina, Tara, Nancy, Tamara and Gina encouraged me to publish this book. So here I am!

I am now 46 years old. I have a great job, great friends, and great family. But there are still days that feel very bad and very unfair.

My goal for publishing this book is to help children understand that bad things happen and bad days happen. But when we have friends and family in our life to help us laugh at ourselves, we can heal and move forward. Everyone has a bad day, week, month or even years. My dream is to share this story for children to know they are not alone and everyone has a bad day.

I am so grateful for my family and friends.

“That’th what I thaid” was published in February 2016. Lauren Panco inspired me to write this story. It is for children who have a hard time with their R’s and S’s. I think many of us have! I want children to know it’s ok to sound different and with practice, it changes. Don’t let anyone make fun of you. We are all perfect the way we are!

Putter and The Red Car: A Cross Country Family Adventure

Putter and the Red Car: A Cross Country Family Adventure is a picture book by Kate K. Lund. We were given a free copy of the book in exchange for a review. All opinions are our own honest opinions.

057

Putter and the Red Car: A Cross Country Family Adventure is the story of a dog, Putter, that goes on a trip across the United States from Boston to Seattle with his family. The story is told from the dog’s point of view. Putter shares with us the cities that he stopped in and some firsts that he experienced.

The book is cute and simple. The illustration are nice watercolors. They lend nicely to the overall feel and simplicity of the book.

I knew that JT would love this book because he loves dogs. He especially loved it since Putter is the one telling the story. Connor also enjoyed reading the book to JT. Puter and the Red Car leaves a with a nice message. We can learn from Putter that we shouldn’t be scared to try new things or go on new adventures. We should try to be like Putter and be excited and optimistic for new adventures that will come our way.

I also like that at the end of the book there is a map that shows us where Putter went on his adventure. I think that this book would make a nice starting out point for young kids to learn some geography.

**JT Says**

“I like the book. I love the dog. I want to pet him and hug him. I like all the pictures of Putter. My favorite is this one because it has two dogs.”

JT's favorite picture.

JT’s favorite picture.

If you’d like to check out this book you can find it on Amazon. I believe it will be enjoyed by young readers anywhere from 4-8, especially if they love dogs.

Sock Monster Review

SockMonster_Banner

Welcome to my tour stop for Sock Monster by Stacey E. Campbell! This is a children’s picture book and the tour runs December 14-18 with reviews. Check out the tour page for the full schedule.

SM cover 10-21-15About the Book:
When Billy refuses to pick up his clothes the sock monster comes to teach him a lesson.

**My Review**

Sock Monster is a really cute book. It tells us about what happens when you don’t pick up your dirty clothes. I’m sure this is relevant to just about anyone. I know that my boys tend to throw their clothes wherever and I always to tell them to put them in the laundry room. I like the style that the story is written in and the story line along with he illustrations are cute. I really enjoyed looking at the pictures. I loved the fact that the back cover has a picture of the sock monster holding a sign that says “WARNING-Reading this book may result in random acts of tidiness”. Who knows, maybe this will inspire the boys to actually put away their clothes.

**JT Says**

I thought the story was funny. I liked it. My favorite picture is the one where the sock monster is growing. I don’t want a sock monster to come.

**Connor Says**

I liked the book. It was interesting because I’ve never seen a book where when someone is saying no they actually have a picture of them shaking their head. I liked that picture. My favorite picture was when the sock monster was growing.

Cupcakes vs. Brownies- The Zimmah Chronicles Blog Tour

blogtour
Welcome to my tour stop for the Zimmah Chronicles by Scott King! This is a middle grade fantasy series. The tour runs December 1-11with reviews, interviews, guest posts and excerpts. Check out the tour page for the full schedule.

There are three books in the series and the boys and I read the first book, Cupcakes vs. Brownies.

CvsB New CoverCupcakes vs. Brownies
Zimmah the djinn isn’t evil. He simply thinks the world would be more fun if everything was made of desserts. So when ten-year-old Karim Jacobs makes a wish to fix his parent’s marriage it’s not Zimmah’s fault that he twists the wish. He couldn’t help himself. Candypunk airships and cupcake castles are cool!

Of course Karim isn’t happy about his wish going astray, specially when running into fantastical creatures like gummy-grizzly-bears and rock candy beasts; and although he desperately wants to go home, he finds himself in the middle of a war between the Cupcake Kingdom and Brownie Kingdom. With his parents lives in danger, its up to him to stop Zimmah and restore the world to normal.

**My Review**

A world made of dessert sounds like it would be sweet and fun but it’s not as sweet as it seems. Cupcakes vs. Brownies captured my attention from the first chapter. I enjoyed the fact that the book took off right away into this dessert world with caramel rivers and cotton candy clouds. This fantastical land also captured the boys’ attention. The second and third chapters of the book take us back before Karim entered the dessert world. I thought that the now and then placement of chapters worked really well. I couldn’t help but think to myself as I was reading that had it been the other way around it wouldn’t have been as attention grabbing.

Cupcakes vs. Brownies was fast paced and easy to read. It kept my nine year old’s attention and he wanted to keep reading. I myself wanted to keep reading to find out what would happen next in Karim’s adventure. One character that stood out for me was Lion. Lion is Karim’s dog turned snow lion and I found him to be very likable.

In my opinion Cupcakes vs. Brownies will be well liked by any fantasy loving kid.

**Connor Says**

I liked it. I thought the book was interesting. I liked Karim and Lion and I wanted to cry when I thought Lion died. I didn’t like Zimmah because he was mean. I think I would like to read the other two books also.

The second and third books in the series are Mermaids vs. Unicorns and Genie vs. Djinn. We haven’t read them yet but you can take a look at the descriptions below.

Summary: A modern-day adventure as our protagonists search for Excalibur and the treasures it holds!

Continuing the adventure that began in Egypt a few months prior in The Secret of the Sacred Scarab, cousins Adam and Justin Sinclair are hot on the trail of the second Stone of Power, one of seven ancient stones lost centuries ago. This stone might be embedded in the hilt of a newly discovered sword that archaeologists believe belonged to King Arthur: Excalibur.

However, their long-standing enemy, Dr. Khalid, is following them as they travel to Scotland to investigate an old castle. Little do they know there is another deadly force, the Eaters of Poison, who have their own mission to complete. Time is running out as the confluence of the planets draws closer. Can Justin and Adam find the second Stone of Power and survive? And why did Aunt Isabel send a girl with them?

Join Justin and Adam as they search not only for the second Stone of Power, but also for the Scroll of the Ancients, a mysterious document that holds important clues to the Seven Stones of Power. As their adventure unfolds, they learn many things and face dangers that make even their perils in Egypt look tame. And how annoying for them that their tag-along companion, Kim, seems to have such good ideas when they are stumped.

The Buzz About “The Chronicles of the Stone”

The Secret of the Sacred Scarab:

“Wow! That was an action-packed story! I loved how Ms. Ingram just dove right into the story. From the time that Adam is given the scarab to the time that Adam and Justin return home, there is non-stop action. Through Ms. Ingram’s fantastic writing skills, I was able to visualize all of the events as they were occurring. I can totally see the story in this book transformed into a screenplay for the big screen. I think it’s a fabulous story filled with mystery, intrigue, and action.” ~ Renee @ Mother Daughter Book Reviews

“Author Fiona Ingram mixes history and legends in this fast action adventure that keeps you reading till the very end. The characters are cleverly written. Young readers can easily step into the shoes of these two cousins and experienced this exciting adventure that takes you into the heart of Egypt. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good mystery…” ~ 5-Star review from Coffee Ramblings “Billy”, Amazon (US)

“This story ROCKED! It was exciting, action-filled, adventurous and history filled book! It pretty much had everything me (as a boy) would want in a book – danger, mystery, legends, exciting setting, myths and much more. The story was written really well and it kept me reading page after page. I really liked the simple pencil illustrations in the book. I liked the characters of Justin and Adam. They were both nice, smart and brave. The book has no bad language or graphic violence in it…” ~ Tween Review, Erik @ This Kid Reviews Books

The Search for the Stone of Excalibur:

“Character development is the key to the story, and the dialogue is snappy… If there are young reluctant readers in your family, this might just be the kick they need to get over that hump. (5 Stars)” ~ Lit Amri, Readers Favorite

Book Description:

‘Twas December 24th, and three brave knights were just settling in for the night when out on the drawbridge, there arose such a clatter! The knights try everything to get rid of this unknown invader (Santa Claus!), a red and white knight with a fleet of dragons . . .

But nothing would stop
their white-whiskered foe.
No matter their efforts,
he just would not go!

This parody of Clement Clarke Moore’s well-known poem ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas is kid-friendly, clever, and just plain silly. Sure to become a holiday classic of a different kind!

**My Review**

I loved reading The Knights Before Christmas with the boys. It’s such a fun and funny story. This is not only a twist on ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas; you’ll also find verses from classic Christmas songs.

The knights in the story are silly and the pictures are fun. I recommend really taking a close look at all the pictures. The book is upbeat and entertaining the entire way through. I’m sure that all kids (and adults) will enjoy reading this.

**Connor Says**

“This is silly. It’s funny. The funniest part is when he is supposed to draw the bridge but he actually draws the bridge. Also, they were supposed to do something with the coat of arms but instead he fought a coat with a lot of arms.”

**JT Says**

JT is a big fan of puppies so of course when I asked him about the book he said “I love the puppy!” He had a lot of fun going back through the book and looking for the puppy on each page. He’s not on every page but he is on a lot of them. When I asked JT what he thought was funniest. He said “That they thought Santa was an intruder.”
