On day 1 of our Big Bend trip, we headed out to the Marfa Maid Goat Dairy for a tour.
Marfa Maid Goat Dairy is a small goat dairy owned by Malinda Beeman and Allan McClane. When we arrived, Malinda came out to greet us and led us to the patio for the first part of our tour.
Malinda talked to us about the dairy, the goats, and how she makes the cheese before sending us off to the next part of the tour where we met Allan. First Allan demonstrated the milking process and then we went out to meet the goats (and the cats). There are several cats that stick around to chase off the snakes. The cats really liked Connor and they were climbing on him.
Of course we loved meeting and petting the goats but the boys’ favorite part was that they got to bottle feed two 4 day old babies. This was so much fun!
After hanging out with the goats we went back on the patio for the last part of the tour. This was the tasting portion! Malinda brought out some Chipotle Chevre and Dill/Chive Chevre to taste. They were both delicious. Even Connor, who is not a fan of cheese, loved them.
We had so much fun during our tour and we even got to take the cheese with us. I’m not sure how the dairy is doing due to COVID. Their website is not running anymore but I highly recommend checking them out if you get a chance or at least attempting to purchase their cheese from the grocery store if you find yourself in Marfa or Alpine.
Last month we went to the grand opening of Turtle Reef at SeaWorld San Antonio. The new exhibit is a 126,000 gallon habitat that showcases rescued, endangered sea turtles. Two{...}
