Our Experience at Grand Floridian’s Sugar Loaf Club Lounge

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort is home to two separate club lounges. There is the Royal Palm club in the main building and the Sugar Loaf club in one of the outer buildings. Here’s our experience staying club level at Sugar Loaf.

We arrived at the Grand Floridian and checked in at the main building. A cast member was called over to walk us to the Sugar Loaf building. She also gave us a quick tour of everything on the way. The entire Sugar Loaf building is club level so a magic band is required to enter.

When you walk into the Sugar Loaf building there is a table set up in the entryway with water (one plain and one with fruit) and some bowls of fruit. There is also a cast member set up that can help with check out and anything else you would do at the front desk.

After the initial entryway, you walk into the club lounge which takes up the entire center of the first floor. To one side there are the tables and the concierge desk, and the other side is where they set out food and drinks. There is only one exception; the mini fridge with soda and bottled water is on the side with the tables. I love the adorable tables for kids!

The club lounge serves breakfast, snacks, afternoon tea, hor d’oeuvres, and dessert. We arrived towards the end of breakfast so we ate and then walked around for a bit before heading back to the lounge to check out the refreshments.

Breakfast offerings included several different sliced breads and bagels. There were also other non-sliced breads and baked goods- citrus muffins, croissants, brioche, and apple coffee cake. Then there were cereals, and yogurt, and oatmeal alongside toppings like fruit and brown sugar. There were also ham and swiss frittatas, deviled eggs with chives, boiled eggs, fruit, and an assortment of meats and cheeses (provolone, cheddar, turkey, ham, and mortadella).

To drink there was orange, apple, and cranberry juice as well as an assortment of teas and coffees which are out all day.

Favorites from breakfast were the turkey, which were thick hand carved slices, and the deviled eggs.

Since it was so close to refreshment time when we were done eating, we decided to take a walk and then come back to see what was available. There was focaccia bread, olive baguette, crackers, and pretzels along with butter, tomato pesto, and spinach and artichoke dip. The same turkey from breakfast was served as well as salami, homemade potato chips, happy hour mix, tomato and feta salad, and crudités with ranch dressing. Then there was tomato Florentine soup with croutons and an assortment of desserts- cookies, rice krispies treats, and gummy bears. The drinks set out were Tropical Juice, Lemonade, and Unsweet Tea.

The Spinach and Artichoke dip was fantastic and so was the Tomato Florentine soup!

Afternoon Tea is served next and after having ridden the surrey bikes at the Port Orleans Resort we were ready for a snack.

There aren’t any special teas brought out for afternoon tea so we picked out a tea from the selection of Twinings Teas they have available. The boys picked the Summer Berry green tea and I don’t remember what I chose. I know there were 3 that I wanted to try and one of them was for sure a mint.

One thing I love about the coffee and tea setup is that the sugar cubes are Mickey shape.

The items that were set out for Afternoon Tea were banana bread, jam tarts, and scones. These were of course accompanied by butter, Devonshire cream, strawberry jam, and something else in the shape of a Mickey head (I think it was maybe something like apple butter).

Next up were the Twilight Refreshers. These were a variety of hors d’oeuvres and appetizers, both cold and hot. For the cold items, there were crudités (a little fancier selection from what was served earlier), cheeses (colby, cheddar, Tillamook cheddar, and La Botega blue), quinoa salad, roasted marinated button mushrooms, broccoli slaw, farro salad, and some tuna with edamame that I didn’t get the name of.

The hot items were meatballs, sirloin skewers with chimichurri sauce, and sausage stuffed mushrooms.

There were also some breads, goldfish, gummy bears, grapes, rice krispies, Uncrustables, brownies, and cupcakes.

Our favorites this time around were the meatballs, sirloin skewers (I’m a big fan of chimichurri), and tuna.

The Grand Indulgence closes out the day with desserts and cordials. A few of the items from the Twilight Refreshers stayed on the line (the brownies, rice krispies, cheese, goldfish, gummy bears, one of the breads, and cupcakes). New items were banana bread, jam tarts, several different cookies including coconut macaroons and French macaroons, seasonal cobbler, chocolate mousse cups, lemon meringue tarts, cheesecake tarts, assorted financiers, and another tart that I didn’t get the name of but it was Mickey shaped and I think it was blackberry.

During the Grand Indulgence, there is a story time for the kids. The story that night was about Mickey trying to get rid of his hiccups. The kids had to stand up and then sit down every time Mickey hiccupped.

Breakfast the next morning was the same basic setup but with a few changes. There was prosciutto in place of the mortadella and swiss instead of provolone. The frittata was roasted tomato and spinach and the deviled eggs had bacon. Then there were blueberry muffins, honey pecan rolls, cinnamon rolls, and cheese danishes.

You’re probably wondering if we ate anything other than the food from the lounge. The answer to that is no. We had plenty of food for the entire day and didn’t need to get anything else. There is also not much time during the day when there isn’t something out. There is an hour in between each offering except for the refreshments and afternoon tea, those overlap.

We really enjoyed our time at Sugar Loaf. This was our first first time staying club level at Disney World. We have stayed club level at plenty of other hotels though and we found Sugar Loaf to be comparable to some and better than others we’ve been to.

Do you ever stay club level at Walt Disney World?
