Big Bend Trip Day 3- Fort Davis to Alpine

We started off our day by searching for somewhere to eat lunch. Fort Davis is a small town so the options are limited and I think there wasn’t much open yet. Lupita’s was open but we had eaten breakfast there the day before so we didn’t want to go there again. We eventually found another Mexican restaurant that was about to open in a few minutes so we went there.

The meal was of course started with chips and salsa. The boys had quesadillas and my mom had chalupas. I decided to try their enchiladas. The description said that it was flat so I was really intrigued by what a flat enchilada was.

Our food came out and my enchilada was indeed flat. It was basically a enchilada that wasn’t rolled up. I don’t remember how many tortillas it was more than one tortilla just stacked on top of each other with cheese, sauce, and onions. It was definitely interesting but I didn’t care for it. It was the sauce that I didn’t like.

After lunch we went to the Chihuahuan Desert Institute and Botanical Gardens. We parked and headed into the visitor’s center and gift shop. We paid our admission and were given a map. The employee explained the trails and told us which were the easiest, which were his favorites, and which ones we might be interested in. I’ll write more about our visit in a separate post but we explored the trails on both the botanical garden side and the nature center side.

We were planning on visiting the Museum of the Big Bend in Alpine once we left the CDRI but after checking for directions I saw that they are actually closed on Mondays so we wouldn’t be able to visit after all. We still made our way over to Alpine though because that’s where we would be staying the next two nights.

So, instead of heading to the museum, we just went to check in to our hotel. As always, I’ll be putting up a separate post about the hotel. Once we were checked in we decided to find a place to eat.

We ended up at a Chinese buffet. The food was fine. It was your typical Chinese buffet.

On the way to the restaurant we saw that there was a movie theater. It was a tiny theater and they were only showing 2 movies. One of them was Onward so we decided that we could go to the movie later since we didn’t have anything else to do.

Alpine is known for it’s public art so on the way back to our hotel we stopped to look at the murals around town and walked through the art alley.

We got back to our hotel and then just hung out there until it was time to head over to the theater for the movie.

Do you like finding public art?
